Chechessee Creek Club LLC

Chechessee Creek Club represents a throwback to times when golf was simpler. Golf course architects Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore were presented with a lush canvas of mature Low country pines and oaks nestled by the languid waters of Chechessee Creek. With the backing of developers Jim Chaffin and Jim Light, the team set out to demonstrate that classical golf course design could not only exist at sea level, it could flourish if certain time-honored techniques were put to practice. The result is a timeless, low-profile course that is fun for all.

Chechessee Creek is a throwback in almost every way imaginable, including the length of the course. The layout tips out at 6,606 yards, bringing shot making and club selection back into the strategic realm. Members also enjoy one of the game’s great traditions via the club’s caddie program. Caddies are mandatory from the first tee time in the morning until the early afternoon, and add a level of camaraderie and enjoyment missing from many of America’s private golf clubs.

Our goal at Chechessee was to create a golf course of traditional character that would reward thoughtful, imaginative and precise play, while utilizing and showcasing the magnificent oaks and pines of the Carolina Low-Country.

We hope that the nuances of the course will reveal themselves over time, encouraging players to attempt a variety of shots and strategies to discover how best to reward their individual game.
