About 80 people came to a reception Saturday at the golf course, which will open next spring. Shielded from the breeze by a tent not far from the 16th green, they saw grass sprouting through the fairways, mounds of food and Matt Martinson getting choked up talking about his father, who died Sunday of cancer at age 73.
"My dad didn't have a chance to play the whole course," said the younger Martinson, 41. "But he played it in his mind. We have finally made it come true."
